Are you not intimidated by ocean going vessels and tugs? Do you enjoy a bit of commercial water traffic as you paddle down the river? Port Neches City Park may be the place for you to go.

You will not find many paddlers in the area, but its easy access to Midtown and even Beaumont, make it attractive for a trip or two during the year. The boat ramp is concrete and can easily handle four boats being launched at a time. Although there will only be a few times each year when you find the area crowded with activities in the City Park, you will usually find a boat or two in the area. Most of the boat ramp traffic are fishing boats heading toward Sabine Lake or Bessie Heights Marsh. Usually you will find quite a few "lookers" along the docks and some shore fishing activity in nice weather.

In the winter months you are not too far from the power plant down the river and its warm water discharge that draws both fish and fisherman. Red early in the fall as the water temperature drops are found by the warm water discharge. You will also find occasional trout and, often small, flounder seem to hang around the march enjoying the moderate water from the power plant.

You will find playground equipment in the Park for you children and a generally pleasant small town atmosphere around the park and boat ramp. Rostrum facilities are adequate and there is a nice shelter house overlooking the river.
You will not find too many paddlers leaving the boat ramp, but once you travel up or down the river .5 mile or a bit more, you have access to canals and cuts going back into the marches. Lots of shore birds such as the Egret to the right are in the marsh areas. Anhingas abound with other fishing water birds throughout the marches.
