High banks abound along this the upper Neches trip. |
|
We launched down the bank of a Town Bluff shoreline that has changed little from the time of Ms. Watson's description in the Reflection on the Neches. The current was swift moving us down the river at about 2 miles per hour without a paddle stroke. The day was overcast with frequent sun shinning from behind the clouds. Motor boat traffic was minimal in the river, but friendly residents were along much of the river saying hello as we traveled south. Friendly Big Thicket Enforcement Officers stopped us as we ventured up one of the creeks along the river. We easily met our goal of being down to Colliers Ferry by about 4:00. Everyone expressed excitement about our next trip.
