Saturday proved to be a fantastic morning to be on Village Creek. The early morning hours of warmth and high humidity was broken with a steady rain on the creek. The time of year, the early morning hour, and constant rain created an unusual solitude on the river. As the rain came, the temperature dropped into the low 70s, making paddling the river a comfortable temperature…and no insects. It was great! Although the rain was steady in the morning hours, the overhanging trees and few bridges along the route provided umbrella sheltering you from 'serious' rain. The blanket of calm on the river provide the backdrop for active birds along the river's edge. The squirrels seem to find the morning a great time to productively explore the river's trees building their winter's food stash.
Fishing was the top story on the river. The cooling air and rain seemed to be telling the fish that it was time to find their fill. It is usually possible to catch quite a few small sunfish and bass along the creek, but today provide a smorgasbord of sizes. And the run-off areas provided a constant stream of fish hungry for small plastic baits. It was just of case of finding running water flowing into the creed from the rain and they were there. The best area were close to deeper water and also had clouds of dark water forming out from the banks. Though you bait into the cloudy water and you would come back with a small bass. Also, somewhat unusual for this area of the creek, the deep water near the banks also yielded three bass over two pounds. Nothing to brag about, but enough to make it a fantastic day.

Above the two cuts in the bank on the far side of the river poured water into the creek as a steady rain cam down.

The clouded water above coming from the bank to the right yielded two largemouth bass.

A couple of the many small bass that couldn't resist a small plastic bait.
