Franklin Lake

Big Thicket Preserve

August 1, 2004

Franklin Lake lived up to expectations for a great summer paddle. The cypress slough provided the opportunity to paddle for miles under the shade of cypress and tupelo trees.
The boat ramp is gravel with the room for several small boats to be launched. The water was at normal level for the summer months with little rain. You can find 8-10 feet of water in the main lake and there are miles of cypress with 4-5 feet of water. It was a great day for bird watching with a variety of shore and woodland birds.
David decided to relax as he paddle down one of the sloughs with on a light current.
Wasps were active in nest that was in a overhanging cypress tree in the middle of the lake.
