Smith Point

May 21, 2006

Bill did a great job with directions for the day. It was a great paddle to Frankland Point. Bill and Bob did well with the redfish....but sorry, no pictures of the fishermen.
On the way to Smith Point you can see the area of the Sarah Ridge Pix ranch (1814-1891). A Cherokee Indian, Mrs. Pix used a cattle brand in the shape of a lizard in 1856 while Smith Point was still a part of Liberty County. Sarah was twice divorced including a celebrated divorce trial at Wallisville, then county seat of Chambers County, in 1880. She died on her Smith Point ranch on January 8, 1891, and is buried in the McNeir Cemetery at Smith Point.
